Workshop Advanced Freediver (Level 2)

Requirements


Brevet Requirements: The participant should have completed the first level "Basic Free Diver (Level 1)" of the Apnoe-King Academy, but the participant should be able to complete a distance of 300 meters in any swimming style without fins and drift 1.5 minutes on the surface (without aids), with hands (not arms) out of the water. Participants do not have to be scuba divers.


Minimum age: 17 years

Workshop duration: 2 days


Required equipment: mask, snorkel, normal or Apnoe fins, watch and depth gauge or a freediver computer - for open water training a wetsuit, weight belt and weights.


Furthermore, a medical certificate of fitness for diving is required.

Description and aim of the workshop

The goal of this workshop is to teach you the basic rules and techniques of Apnoe diving, as well as the physical and physiological processes in the body, breathing techniques and first aid measures. 

 

The workshop includes 3 theory sessions and 2 practical sessions in the pool and     2 practical sessions open water. The participant should be able to:


  • Hold their breath for 2 ½ minutes (static Apnoe).
  • 40 meters of distance diving (dynamic Apnoe)
  • 18 meters of deep diving (with weights).

 

Upon completion of the workshop, the participant will receive a certificate of attendance/certificate from the Apnoe-King Academy.

 

 

Theory

  • Repeated breathing
  • Physics (laws of Dalton and Henry)
  • Risk of diving diseases in the context of deep apnoea diving
  • Near drowning (in fresh and salt water)
  • Nitrogen narcosis during free diving
  • Diaphragmatic breathing / diaphragmatic cramps
  • Respiratory circulation
  • Muscle fatigue during freediving
  • Dehydration
  • First aid measures

 

Pool Training

  • Stretching exercises to prepare the breathing muscles
  • Swimming techniques
  • Relaxation and breathing
  • Learning the deep and slow ventilation of the lungs
  • Control of the diaphragm during Apnoe diving
  • How to give first aid in case of a diving accident
  • Dynamic Apnoe

 

Open water training

  • Buoyancy (adjustment and setting of equipment)
  • Putting on a dive line
  • Preparation of the entry
  • Mental attitude and learning how to go from effort to pleasure
  • Breathing technique before entering the water
  • Thoughts and psychology at the time of diving
  • Measures to be taken in case of a panicked diver
  • Rescue of an unconscious diver
  • Rescue of a diver with muscle cramps
